Black Scholarships
Sallie Mae in cooperation with BET Networks provides a list of over 300 scholarships available to college-bound black students. On the Black College Dollars website, Sallie Mae explains why there is the need for such funding:
"According to research from the U.S. Department of Education, white Americans are nearly twice as likely as black Americans to have earned a bachelor's degree by the age of 29. If current trends continue, of every 100 African-American kindergartners today, only 20 will achieve a bachelor's degree by age 29, compared to 36 out of 100 white students."
Therefore, the fund's initiative is to increase the number of educated black Americans by providing financial aid.
